Task scams create the illusion of making money

Have you been getting unexpected messages about online work? The FTC’s new Data Spotlighthighlights a big increase in the number of people reporting gamified job scams, or “task scams.” Read on to learn what they are and how to avoid them.

In a task scam, scammers ask you to do simple, repetitive tasks, such as liking videos or rating product images online. The supposed “job” is to complete tasks in an app or online platform for which you’ll “earn money” from a “commission” on each click.
